A reflection about receiving.

A Reflection About Receiving – Adam Baker
There will be words spoken to you, identities impressed upon you,
declarations about who you are, what you’re capable of, and whether
you are a success or failure. You’ve heard them, and you will hear
them again.
Remember that all words emerge from somewhere and someone. As
much as you may wrestle with insecurity and questions about who you
are, those who try to define you are also people haunted by such
things. All of us are creatures, divine image-bearers, finite persons
ever-growing who wrestle daily with what it is to be alive and to
actually freely live.
Sometimes all of us speak when silence would be best.
With this being said, don’t quickly dismiss what is said to you, or those
who are speaking. They are also loved by God. Receive all things with
open hands, prayerfully curious even if there is pain, and do your best
to remember that God speaks often in unexpected ways.
Hold these words, examine them, mull them over, and lay them out
like stones plucked fresh from the sea. As they dry, some may still
shine in the light of the sun.
Make space to pray before passing what you have heard into your
heart. Not every word is meant for you, even when it is said to you.
And, no matter what you hear from others, remember what has
always been spoken over you by the God who spoke you into being:
You are beloved. You are known. You are worthwhile.
Amen.
