A fable for our times

(from  Aesop)

A wolf saw a lamb drinking from a river and wanted to find an excuse for devouring him.   So he accused the lamb of muddying the water he  was trying to drink.   The lamb said that he drank only with the tip of his tongue,  and besides that,  he was downstream of the wolf.   When his first excuse failed him the wolf tried again.

"Well,  last year you insulted my father."

"I wasn't even born then,"  said the lamb.

"You are clever at finding answers,"  said the wolf,  "but I'm going to eat you anyway."
